It was carnival time on Thursday 11th February in
San Fulgencio. Children and carers from the The La Ranita Guarderia
(nursery), with children aged from 3 to 6 years, and children and
teachers from the Jose Manresa Colegio, aged from 6 to 11 years were
involved, as well as the English mothers who read to the children
aged from years 5+ in their school lunch break.
Dancing in the streets.
Some mothers of children attending the schools were
invited to participate by the school’s head of studies, Maria de los
Angeles Deaz Fernandez. Those that took part in the carnival, and
those that witnessed it, all agree that this was one of the best
ever seen in San Fulgencio. The atmosphere and the jovialness of the
children dancing through the streets was infectious. All costumes
were provided by the parents, some made them, many purchased them.
Lisa White (seen in the photo of the English Mother’s second from
the right) was very kindly lent a clown costume by a Spanish mother,
Lisa’s son and her son are in the same class.
Two more
that have briefly stopped dancing to be
photographed.
The San Fulgencio schools have children of many
nationalities. The integration and involvement of different cultures
makes San Fulgencio a very interesting cosmopolitan
municipality. |
