dogs coats - mark (wince).jpg

Thanks to K9 committee member Christine Lineham and La Marina business Bumble Bee Prints the K9 Club now has 12 special dog adoption coats for abandoned dogs to wear to bring attention to them when they are in public areas.  We had three similar dog coats last year and they worked very well in highlighting the dogs for adoption. Unfortunately we lost track of where these coats are located. It’s great that we now have 12 new dog adoption coats for the foster carers to use when walking the dogs. MANUEL BARRERA AND FERNANDO GADEA ATTEMPT TO DISCREDIT LOCAL ANIMAL WELFARE VOLUNTEERS...

When two K9 Club animal welfare volunteers used the council donated animal rescue vehicle to travel to Torrevieja Hospital car park to meet a lady that lived nearby in Los Altos who wanted to adopt an abandoned cat, Manuel Barrera, the local opposition politician that will appear in court for allegedly embezzling public funds and allegedly accepting a bribe, suddenly appeared at the scene and used his camera to take photos of them in the car park. He did not ask them why they were there or inform them why he was taking photos. He sent the photos that he had taken to the press and to Fernando Gadea, another opposition councillor. Fernando Gadea posted the photos on his web site stating that the new animal rescue vehicle is being used by unknown persons for private purposes and as a taxi!

Brenda Bentley was the K9 Club volunteer that was in the vehicle at the time. She confirmed that the visit to the Hospital car park was to meet a lady that was adopting a K9 Club rescued cat!

K9 Club volunteers have been working to rescue and re-home abandoned animals in this part of the Costa Blanca for more than 20 years. Brenda Bentley is one of our longest serving and respected volunteers and it is her working relationship with the current San Fulgencio councillor for animal welfare that has secured the animal rescue vehicle donated by the council for the use of transporting animals. It is despicable that opposition councillors Barrera and Gadea will try to scandalise the legitimate procedures of animal welfare volunteers in an attempt to achieve their own political ambitions.

We at the K9 Club need good quality bric-a-brac, electrical items, clothing, bedding, pots, pans, old pet collars, harnesses and leads, and most importantly good old fashioned money donations so that we can continue rescuing and re-homing abandoned animals. We also need more volunteers that will temporarily foster a dog or a cat, even for a short period. Fostering can be a very rewarding experience. Click here for more information.

One of our volunteer’s is working with a Spanish woman in Alicante. In conversation she told him that she was going to drown five newly born puppies. He persuaded her to allow them to stay with their mother temporarily and that we would help to home them when they were at the right age. However, what we did not know was that she was keeping the mother and the puppies outside. From a litter of five only two survived. We believe that three died from exposure. This one remaining puppy, aged 8 weeks, is now in the home of the K9 club volunteer and she is ready for adoption. Both her mother and father were small dogs.

This dog was rescued after he was seen in a derelict building by one of our volunteers, starving and very thin. It looked like he had been there he had been there for quite a while. He is very small and very cute. He was found with a larger dog, a German Shepherd cross, they had both been abandoned and were keeping each other company. He is 2.5 years and will make a great little pet. An examination and X-ray revealed that he has an old injury to his left hip with a crushed ball joint. He is going to go for surgery for this soon. Bart is adorable and very easy to please.

FOSTERING, WHAT DOES IT MEAN...

Do you love animals but cannot commit to one full-time?

Every animal lover knows that dogs and cats settle better in foster care than they would in kennels, we are therefore trying to build up a number of reliable fosterers to step in when the need arises. Many people have told us that they would love a dog or cat but due to other commitments, holidays, expense etc., they can not commit to one full time. Fostering is the answer. We are looking for people to foster a dog or a cat for short periods whilst we find the owner or a new permanent home.

Are you worried about becoming too attached?

This is a genuine concern, however, if you know from the outset that this is only temporary measure, you will be able to look after a dog or cat for a short period, others have and so can you. This can be so rewarding for you and the rescued animal. We will move the dog or cat to another foster home at a pre-determined date decided by you. This also helps in socialising an animal.

We are eternally grateful to our animal fosterers because when one animals is homed we can save another one. Without foster homes we cannot do this.

We would like to thank Pat and Andy of Andy's Emporium for all their ongoing help in re-homeing K9 Club animals. For more info on Andy's Emporium Click Here

*******************

We receive telephone calls every day asking for our help with an abandoned or mistreated animal. Please give an animal a loving home, you will receive love and loyalty from your new companion, alternatively, please become a K9 Club volunteer to foster an animal on a temporary basis.

We need quality brick-a-brack, electrical and other items to sell on our stalls and donations so that we can continue to rescue and rehome abandoned animals. We would like to find a generous benefactor that can help us in opening a charity shop so that we can sell the brick-a-brack and clothes that people have kindly been donated to us as we are running out of space to store everything.  If you know someone that has shop premises not being used please let us know.

We need more funds and more people to help us as these days there are many more animals that need rescuing and our funds regularly run out.
