San
Fulgencio Town Hall debt....
The
assertion is that (CBN July 8-14) that the previous PSOE/APSFU
council in San Fulgencio had left a disproportionate debt of
8,000,000 Euros. With
a population of around 12,000, this would equate to a per capita
debt of approximately 667 Euros. As of
December 31st 2010, the national
average debt per capita for a Town Hall in Spain
is 616.65 Euros. In fact, for San Fulgencio, the corresponding
figure was 232.02! This
gives a total debt for San Fulgencio 2010 of 2,690,000
Euros, which is a substantial reduction from the 2009
figure of 3,398,000 Euros.
Either
the previous administration went mad in the run-up to the May
election - in which case the PP governing
councillors should be demanding an immediate and full judicial
public enquiry, or, the assertion made by a
certain local PP councillor is, shall we say,
mistaken?
Could
the newly elected PP councillor be trying to divert
attention away from the allegations of 'nepotism', or the
fact that a certain new Scottish councillor (reported as not
drawing a salary) will in fact receive 'financial compensation'
to the tune of 650€ per meeting of the government team, usually four
each month, (Información newspaper July 12,
2011).
There
is a difference of some 5,310,000 Euros between the actual debt
for December 2010 and the amount alleged by the PP councillor.
It is
incumbent upon him to account for this
difference.
To put the debt situation into perspective: The law permits
local councils to have a debt loading of 120% on their current
account - and many councils run close to this figure.
Under the previous administration, San Fulgencio's debt loading at the end of 2010 was 18.32%, which
one of the lowest in the country.
