Madam Secretary,
It is with great sadness that we are reluctantly
resigning from the Association Independent Mediterraneo Committee to
which we were elected and appointed by the AIM members at Annual
General Meetings. We
would like members to know that we believe this to be the best
option due to:-
A The
attitude of the AIM President, Manuel Barrera Garcia towards the
committee, members and elected councillors since his arrest on
corruption charges and subsequent suspension from the Town
Hall.
i
Threats issued to the two English
councillors.
ii
Attempted gagging orders on Committee Members contrary to the procedures laid down in the Articles
of Association and Spanish
Law.
iii
Refusing to respond to the Secretary concerning the date and
agenda for the 2008 AGM.
B
The unwillingness of the President, indeed his obstruction,
in providing the Committee Members with:-
i
Copies of the Articles of Association.
ii
Properly Audited Accounts of the
Association.
iii
Details of the Association Bank Account.
iv
Name of the current Association
Treasurer.
v
An up to date membership list as requested by the Secretary.
All of these are required by the Articles of Association and
refusal to hand them over has prevented the smooth running of the
Association.
C The
behaviour of the President in improperly holding a Press Conference
on Wednesday 12 November 2008 together with a group purporting
to be the “executive committee” thereby giving the erroneous
impression that the President had the full backing of the
Association and its Committee.
The above, together with the tone and content of his several
press and television statements, show that Manuel Barrera has
shown contempt for the AIM membership and disregard for the AIM
Articles of Association and the law. All of these things have in our
opinion brought the Association into disrepute.
