THE END OF AIM!

BELOW IS A COPY OF THE MASS RESIGNATION LETTER SIGNED BY THE OFFICIAL COMMITTEE MEMBERS OF THE AIM ASSOCIATION AT A PRESS CONFERENCE HELD ON ON FRIDAY 21st NOVEMBER 2008.

Madam Secretary,

It is with great sadness that we are reluctantly resigning from the Association Independent Mediterraneo Committee to which we were elected and appointed by the AIM members at Annual General Meetings.  We would like members to know that we believe this to be the best option due to:-

A       The attitude of the AIM President, Manuel Barrera Garcia towards the committee, members and elected councillors since his arrest on corruption charges and subsequent suspension from the Town Hall.

i         Threats issued to members Mick Blake and Mark Lewis.

ii        Attempted gagging orders on Committee Members  contrary to the procedures laid down in the Articles of Association and Spanish Law.

iii       Refusing to respond to the Secretary concerning the date and agenda for the 2008 AGM.

B        The unwillingness of the President, indeed his obstruction, in providing the Committee Members with:-

i         Copies of the Articles of Association.

ii        Properly Audited Accounts of the Association.

iii       Details of the Association Bank Account.

iv       Name of the current Association Treasurer.

v        An up to date membership list as requested by the Secretary.

All of these are required by the Articles of Association and refusal to hand them over has prevented the smooth running of the Association.

C       The behaviour of the President in improperly holding a Press Conference on Wednesday 12 November 2008  together with a group purporting to be the “executive committee” thereby giving the erroneous impression that the President had the full backing of the Association and its Committee.

The above, together with the tone and content of his several press and television statements, show that Manuel Barrera Garcia has shown contempt for the AIM membership and disregard for the AIM Articles of Association and the law. All of these things have in our opinion brought the Association into disrepute.

How much you know about Spanish politics? Ask yourself these questions.

1.  Why did Manuel Barrera state this week in the press, and on Television Vega Baja, that he now wants to split La Marina from San Fulgencio?

2.  Why does he want the two English councillors to resign?

3. Why has Fernando Gadea also stated in the press recently that he also want these same two things?

4. Why on the P y O web site does Fernando Gadea state in relation to Manuel Barrera We do not use words to damage an individual’s reputation or take advantage of a situation in order to harm a fellow human being.  We are a political party in constant evolution, where there are opportunities for all classes of people who would like to make or change policies.

Answer (the only possible one)…. Because Manuel Barrera and Fernando Gadea have been talking! They have worked out a plan to get them both back into office by instigating another ‘Mocion de Cesura’, like the one that Manuel Barrera did in October last year to oust Fernando Gadea and Fina Mora to go in with Trindad Martinez and Mariano Marti!

This is the only way that Manuel Barrera and Fernando Gadea can get can get back into the town hall as governing councillors during this elective term, by coming together again!

FACT: A ‘Mocion de Censura’ can only be instigated by a councillor in the ‘Equipo de Gobierno’ (a councilor in government in the town Hall), an opposition councilor cannot instigate a ‘Mocion de Censura’.

It is important to remember that a governing councilor that has been involved in initiating one ‘Mocion de Censura’ in any elective term cannot instigate another (as in the case of the two English councillors). Therefore, the reason that Manuel Barrera wanted the two English councillors to resign is because the next two election candidates in the AIM list will then be stepped up into their position and they will be able to instigate a  ‘Mocion de Censura’ (their first one)!

This ‘Mocion de Censura’ would then oust the PSOE and the APSFU in favour of…. You guessed it…. Manuel Barrera and his three councillors (AIM), Fernando Gadea (PyO) and his two councilors, and the three PP party councillors.

THE AIM COUNCILLORS STATEMENT:

Our current position is this:

We were elected by AIM members and local residents with a mandate to give the people of the urbanisations a voice in the Town Hall for the very first time. The articles of constitution for our political party are emphatic in that our responsibility is to represent the political will of the people, not the political ambitions of one man. With your support we will continue to work as AIM councillors.
